Hybrid Automobiles
Hybrid technologies have revolutionized the automotive industry and the passenger vehicle. Commonly used  hybrid vehicles make use of the traditional petrol powered internal-combustion engines in conjunction with hi-powered electric motors.
Hybrids use 20 to 30 miles per gallon and reduced emissions. Hybrid cars strike a cord with consumers weary of rising gasoline prices as well as conscientious environmentalists.
Hybrid cars use regenerative braking to recharge the battery. This system recovers energy by running the motor backwards as a generator instead of friction brakes.
There are two types of hybrids: series hybrids and parallel hybrids. Parallel designs are by far the most common. A fuel tank supplies gasoline to the engine and a set of batteries supplies power to the electric motor. Both the engine and the electric motor can turn the transmission at the same time, and the transmission then turns the wheels.
